1. Occupational Forecast:

Occupational projections identifying growing and declining occupations for San Diego County are developed by the California Employment Development Department, Labor Market Information Division for a ten-year period, 2004 to 2014.

2. Occupational Selection:

A list of 100 growth occupations taken from the California Employment Development Department, Labor Market Information Division’s occupational projections was presented to an audience of vocational counselors, trainers, employers, and educators at the annual Occupational Outlook Report dissemination meeting held in March of 2006. Attendees rated the importance of obtaining information for the identified occupations. The Local Occupational Information Coordinating Committee reviewed the results and made the final selection of occupations included in the report.
 
3. Questionnaire Development:

A questionnaire developed by local labor market information specialists throughout California was refined to gather occupation-specific data from employers throughout San Diego County.

4. Sample Selection:

An employer sample stratified by industry, employer size, and geographic sub-region was generated.

5. Employer Questionnaire:

Employers throughout the county were asked if they would be willing to complete the confidential questionnaires. Employers were allowed to complete the questionnaires via telephone, fax, or mail.

Data for the 2007 Occupational Outlook Report were collected from August through November 2006. Completed questionnaires were reviewed for internal consistency, and employers were re-contacted for clarification as needed.

6. Data Entry and Tabulation:

Responses from the questionnaires were entered into a database, and a software program was used to tabulate the data.

7. Written Analysis:

Data from the tabulations and other relevant information were carefully analyzed to prepare the individual occupational profiles.

8. Dissemination:

The Occupational Outlook Report was presented at a public dissemination meeting, which is the initial step in publicizing the occupational information. The report is distributed to high schools, community colleges and universities, career counselors, career centers, vocational rehabilitation offices, employers delete this it’s a dupe!, human service agencies, library systems, and employers throughout San Diego County.

The Occupational Outlook Report is shared with individuals who are losing their jobs resulting from delete plant and change to company contractions or closures.

The 2007 Occupational Outlook Report is available in a hard-copy report, on an English-Spanish compact disk (CD), and through the Workforce Partnership’s website: www.SanDiegoAtWork.com.
