JAMES WATTERS (MODERATOR)

James W. Watters has been the business editor of The San Diego Union-Tribune since 2001. He manages eleven reporters, three editors and a columnist for the business section. In 1979, he started his career as a copy editor for The Miami Herald, where, he was the deputy business editor, from 1996 to 2001.

 

GREG STEIN

A Southern California native, Greg Stein is President and CEO of San Diego DEFCOMM, a non-profit organization that advocates defense and space technology development. He previously served as Interim Director of Research Policy at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) and was a recent candidate for the Republican nomination to the 75th California State Assembly District. Presentation

 

MICHELLE STERLING

Michelle Sterling is a Vice President of Human Resources for QUALCOMM Inc., where she oversees more than 2100 employees. She is Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for Occupational Training Services (OTS); Chair of the Advisory Council for OTS; Chair of the Corporate Board of Directors for the San Diego Workforce Partnership; Board member of the Human Resources Strategy Forum; and a member of the Human Resources Planning Society.Presentation

 

ALAN NEVIN

Since 1997, Alan Nevin has been Director of Economic Research at San Diego’s MarketPointe Realty Advisors, where he performs market and financial feasibility studies for residential and commercial projects. He’s a board member at Equality Savings & Loan, as well as Rancho Bernardo Savings & Loan. Presentation

 

JAMES HAMILTON

James Hamilton, a professor at UCSD since 1990, served as Chair of the Economics Department from 1999 to 2002. He has done extensive research on business cycles and monetary policy, and has been a research adviser and visiting scholar with the Federal Reserve System for 15 years. KELLY CUNNINGHAM

Kelly Cunningham joined the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce as an Economist and Research Director in 1987. Mr. Cunningham prepares and produces the monthly San Diego Economic Bulletin, which provides economic data and analysis for the San Diego region.Presentation

 

MARNEY COX

The Chief Economist for the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) since 1979, Marney Cox is the primary spokesperson for the agency’s top programs: “The Regional Economic Prosperity Strategy” and “Achieving State-Local Fiscal Reform.” Mr. Cox is also the Director of SourcePoint, a non-profit corporation that markets data and provides specialized consulting services. JULIE MEIER-WRIGHT

Julie Meier Wright is President and CEO of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation, a business development organization. Before accepting her post at EDC in 1997, Ms. Wright was California’s first Secretary of Trade and Commerce and a member of Governor Pete Wilson’s Cabinet. During the 2003 gubernatorial recall election, she served on Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Economic Recovery Council. Presentation

 

PETER REEB

Peter Reeb founded Reeb Development Consulting in 1996 to provide market feasibility studies and consulting services for the real estate industry. He has worked in real estate market research and management consulting since 1984, and he was president of The Meyers Group from 1993 to 1998. Presentation

 

LARRY FITCH

Larry Fitch, president and CEO of the San Diego Workforce Partnership, Inc., has over 28 years of experience in the workforce development field. At the Workforce Partnership he is responsible for a $60 million plus annual budget funding some 90-job training and education program throughout the City and County of San Diego. These programs assist more than 20,000 laid-off workers and low-income youth and adults in job training and employment each year.

Prior to moving to San Diego in 1997, Mr. Fitch served in leadership positions in a variety of organizations. In 1995 he was asked to lead the State’s Employment and Training system when the Governor of Rhode Island appointed him to a cabinet position. In this role, he was responsible for Rhode Island’s workforce development activities utilizing an annual budget exceeding $320 million.
