SAN DIEGO WORKFORCE INVESTMENT BOARD (WIB)
The San Diego Workforce Investment Board (WIB) is a 43-member board that shares responsibility with the Policy Board for overseeing funding and policy development under the Workforce Investment Act. The WIB is particularly focused on identifying labor market needs and developing effective and innovative responses to these needs in the San Diego region.
Other key priorities include the following:
- Addressing the region's skilled worker shortage by providing access to high quality training;
- Increasing the skills and earnings of San Diego County's low-income and underemployed workers and families;
- Providing career ladder opportunities for the working poor that lead to good jobs and self-sufficiency;
- Meeting the needs of dislocated workers as the San Diego regional economy and businesses continue to restructure to remain competitive;
- Addressing the education, skill, and employment needs of disadvantaged youth, particularly those who have either dropped out of school or who are at risk of dropping out; and
- Working effectively with our local businesses, as well as economic development organizations, education and health and human service agencies to develop a skilled workforce.
